Itinerary
DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SAYLLAPATA – SORAYPAMPA.
In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel to go to the bus terminal, where the bus leaves for Mollepata. The trip will last approximately 3 hours, breakfast will be served when we arrive. While we have breakfast, the cook and the muleteer will pack all the camping equipment and cooking utensils. Ready to go hiking, we started the first 3 hours uphill to get to Cruzpata. We will stop for lunch with the view of the beautiful Andean mountains (Humantay: 4,120 meters above sea level and Salkantay: 6,271 meters above sea level). We will continue our walk to Soraypampa, our first campsite (3,800 mts / 11,750 ft), the highest and coldest place of the trip, very close to the second highest peak of Salkantay.
DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – HUAYRACMACHAY – CHAULLAY
After breakfast we start walking around 6:00 in the morning, this is the longest day of the walk. The first 4.5 hours are uphill to reach the highest point of the route (4,650 m.s.) located between 2 large mountains, Salkantay, on the right and Tucarhuay on the left. The view of the 2 snowy mountains from this step is impressive. We may see snow. After a break, we will continue our way (downhill) through the cloud forest towards Huayracmachay, where we will have lunch. The hike after lunch will take us through the jungle line of trees until we reach our second camp, Chaullay Colcapampa (3,000 m.n.m.).
DAY 3: CHAULLAY – PLAYA SAHUAYACO – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES
After breakfast, at 4.30 a.m., we start the hike through the high jungle, crossing the Lluskamayo river and a variety of small streams, we will arrive at La Playa Sahuayaco after about 6 hours. This day we will pass through valleys with wonderful views of the waterfalls, tropical fruits and plants. Upon arrival at the place called La Playa, the animals will return to Mollepata, we will take a local bus to the Hydroelectric, from there we will travel to Aguas Calientes or the town of Machu Picchu, arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m. and so you will have time to relax, to have a delicious dinner and enjoy the hot springs.
DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
The morning starts very early, around 4 am, with breakfast at 4:30. The plan is to appreciate the sanctuary while it is illuminated by the light of the morning and have as many hours as possible to explore the place. To get there you can walk around 1h30m or take the bus that leaves at 5:30 a.m. (trip of about 25 min.). Upon arrival we will see how it is that the citadel radiates with sunlight. After a walking tour (approximately 2 hours) with the guide, you will have time to explore the mysterious city on your own. And if you still have energy, you can also go up to Huayna Picchu (2,720 m.s.). It takes about 45 minutes to get to the top (US $ 12.50, upon reservation). Then go down to Aguas Calientes (where we can return by bus or on foot) will take the train back to Ollantaytambo at 21.30, from where we will take you to Cusco. Arrival at the City of Cusco at 01.00 am approx.
